That is, until a strange woman gives her a shot.
Now, Aspen is a proxy. She can’t recall what she said, but she catches on to what she’s for: an extra pair of hands to do mercenary work. What kind? Hunting monsters, and she starts her first week in the beautiful city of Shawl.
But extermination isn’t the only reason why Aspen’s there. Her master has her eyes set on Shawl’s rising star, or rather, his powers over life. At the same time, a suspicious network’s influence and unexplained illnesses are spreading throughout the city. Something’s happening, and she needs to make up her mind on who she stands with.
Meet The Main Characters
Aspen Saffron is an ex-convict sponsored under the redemption program. In exchange for her freedom, she is to work as a proxy and hunt monsters worse than her. Aspen’s Inheritance—retractable, monstrous limbs which thirst for blood—has her struggling to live an ordinary life, but she knows she only has one more shot to have it.
Kennedy Hawthorne is another proxy of Kalteisen Industries. His level-headedness and general experience makes him a valuable member of Aspen’s team. While Kennedy may disagree with certain decisions and take matters into his own hands, he is otherwise extremely loyal to the Kalteisen family.
York Kalteisen is a seventeen year old boy taking on the role of a proxy manager. Eager to prove himself to his family, especially his older sister, he takes charge in leading a small team to secure Kalteisen Industries’ interests inside the City of Shawl. Unsurprisingly, he is incredibly unfit for the role, but he’d never tell you that.
Leith Rosemary is a local celebrity of Shawl. Bearing two of the most coveted Inheritances and being proficient with both, he works as a performer, miracle healer, and botanist. Understanding that he is merely lucky to be born this way, he decided that it’s his responsibility to continue growing and share his blessings with the people of Shawl.
